Ask: Discussion or Hope for Spoon Feeding

People sure really love to ask question for what they want to know (exception for student in classes maybe). It is a good thing but how is it supposed to be actually?

I'm one of them that love to ask (read: discuss) to have more understanding about topic. I love people to ask (read: discuss) me too. However, I do annoy with people that always ask simply just to know the answer without doing any work.

But, there is topic that we can hope for direct answer (which means doesn't need discussion). You don't expect people to have discussion just to know your name right?

Let's see an example. Boss gave a task for his employee to complete. He also gives to his employee all resources for it. Pretty complete for sure. And after some time, the employee ask his buddy a question. It goes in different ways;

Question 1;
Person: Hey, how to do this?
Did you ever read the manual/supporting documentation? I don't think its that hard to understand simple English. And I really can't believe that you don't understand it at all.

Please don't hope for me to explain every single step how it works and suggest/create the solution for you. It is simply unacceptable.
Question 2;
Person: Hey, I did this and that and that but when it comes to this steps,
Hurm, I guess you have tried your best to understand it and really stucked. It's ok, I can lead you the way.
Question 3;
Person: Hey, I try to do this..this..this and this but it comes out to be error. Can you help me?

Question 4;
Person: I do everything as instruct. Still I do think that it's not the best solution available. What do you think?
Very good question indeed. I'll be happy to help you.

Bottom line: Please, don't just simply blindly ask question that makes you seem to be not trying to understand the topic a bit. Its just annoying and irritating. And at the same time, you will never learn a thing.

You get it right. Should be 'How to tell that we don't know intelligently'.

Thanks.

hmm.. this is a situation i encounter alot too. but im patient enough :) it sometimes irritates me. i hate it too. but most of the time, im patient enough to explain.

the thing is, you have to ask at the RIGHT time. oh boy, not when im busy. really to those who knows me, i dont entertain questions when im busy. =| this is when they call me a bitch. haha but nemmind :)

but its kinda annoying when, they get to ask you ALOT of question, but when you wanna know something from them, they fucking dont wanna entertain u..not that they didnt know the answer.. wtf?

sometimes people ask just to test our knowledge, whether we really understand it or not.

sometimes people ask to know the alternative to do that, cuz they have tried it, but in a complex way.

sometimes people ask cuz they just plainly don't know.

and of course it's kinda hurt when you ask a smarter person, but he/she knows you're not as smart as u and give you that look.

i like this entry so much :)
